So earlier this week I get an email from my lovely editor, Mari, over at Latina. I read it and literally laugh out loud, like a good hearty people walking by are going to think I’m crazy laugh out loud. Mari had just informed me that her art director wants uniform pictures for all the bloggers and she wants to know if I (pregnant mom of 1 toddler) can make it down to NYC in the next week or two.
Can other mamis out there see why I might find this so funny? Could it be that I’m a little bit OCD about planning trips and (less than) one week’s notice just ain’t cutting it? Could it be that I am useless past 7pm and I can’t fathom mustering up the energy to make a one day round trip to NYC? Could it be that I think it’s hilarious she called it a photo shoot – a term reserved for only the very, very cool?
You know what it’s really about? Me in front of a camera and having someone else picking the best pic of me. Which also means I need to get more make-up and find like two hours to do my hair. Since having Dessa I dont’ exactly feel like I look like myself. I’m not going to lie. I don’t’ feel exactly pretty; I might feel attractive maybe, MAYBE once a week if that. I can’t pinpoint what it is. Maybe the lack of time to take care of me (yeah it’s been a very, very long time since I did a serious blow dry on my hair). Maybe it’s the lack of time to update my wardrobe. Maybe it’s about me still trying to pinpoint how my body has changed since I gave birth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not down in the dumps about but then again I don’t normally have a photoshoot to think about.
The profile pic that is up now is one of those single days of the week I felt pretty kick ass – probably because it was my friend’s wedding and I was wearing a saree I loooooove and I had oodles of time to beautify…oh and some cocktails helped too! The only thing comforting me at this point is the assumption that whoever takes the pictures is going to have some killer editing program to erase any imperfections.
So what’s the plan?
-Get through the laundry so I can find something cute to wear.
-Make it to Sephora or Ulta and buy concealer and mascara.
-Blow dry and curl.
-Get Dessa a cute new outfit or just do her laundry.
Let’s get to it!
