Once upon a time, in a college town, many years ago, I was a slim, perky young thing who spent hours in Filene’s Basement swooning over fashion. I traded it in for babies, black leggings, TOMS and tunics. It could be worse; I know, I’ve been there (yoga pants and nursing tanks, anyone?). The college days are over and I may no longer have the luxury of time and solitude to indulge the fashionista in me but she lives on underneath the mom facade.
Last winter I walked into my local Macy’s and my inner fashionista got a wake up call. Some where between the last time I shopped in Macy’s juniors department in college and 5 years ago when I had kids, they got smart and created Impulse Brands – the perfect limbo for those of us who feel too old for the juniors department and too young for the women’s department. A translation of what’s trendy into something I understand and can admire.
Little by little, one article of clothing and one accessory at a time, I’ve begun to feel like the person you see on the outside really is a reflection of who I am on the inside. Cheesy but true. And on August 25th, I’m going to shop til I drop to support my closet and Macy’s annual March of Dimes fundraiser. Moms – take note: just like your kids need a back-to-school wardrobe, you need a season update, too.
Here’s the deal. The March of Dimes, which works to improve infant and maternal health, has teamed up with Macy’s to provide shoppers an opportunity to shop, save money and do a little good with their Shop for a Cause fundraiser. Buy a $5 Macy’s savings pass for 25% off on regular, sale & clearance items including home (10% off electronics, watches, furniture, mattresses, rugs/floor coverings) and 100% of the $5 cost will go to the March of Dimes.
Ready to throw out the mom uniform? Here are the 3 things you need to know:
- Visit your local Macy’s between today & August 25th to purchase a $5 savings pass for in store use.
- Visit Macy’s online on August 25th to purchase a $5 savings pass for use exclusively online (sign up for a reminder here).
- Shop til you drop on August 25th!
- BONUS: A friendly reminder that your pass will be stacked on top of any other sales going on. For example, these $120 loafers on sale for $84 will be coming home with moi for just $63. Score!
Now’s the perfect time to score some savings for the back-to-school season or even, dare I say it, the holidays. Or if you’re still in a warm weather kind of mood, consider stocking up for next summer by scoring some big deals on the sales racks. Me? I’m going to focus on clearing out my closet and getting ready to face fall fashionably (alliteration, anyone?).
That sweater minus the glum face, those boots with the perfect heel, the polka dot skinny jeans, the Albalone evil eye ring, oh the ring! My heart goes pitter patter. A new fall wardrobe at 25% off sounds like just what a mom needs. And in case you’re a mom who needs a little encouragement to shop for herself, here are some wise words about the value of fashion. It’s not just about getting out the door. It’s a valuable statement and an expression of who you truly are. The timeless Helen Mirren says it best -

Don’t get it twisted, though. I’m dreaming of all the things I want to get myself on the 25th but let’s be honest. I’ll probably get half the things I want for my closet and end up stocking my kitchen with a beauty like the one below and lots of goodies for my girls. I can’t ever go shopping without getting something for those giggly girls of mine.
This post (+ my sharing on social media) was inspired by my participation in a compensated program initiated by Women Online/The Mission List to raise awareness about the March of Dimes/Macy’s charitable fundraiser. All commentary, opinions, and fabulous finds are, of course, my own.
